Campaign partners, patients, experts, and stakeholders will come together to identify key safety concerns and introduce the campaign’s solutions-focused approach.

Join Team Cannabis Safety each Saturday during Cannabis Safety Month for an informal, action-focused meetup to prepare for the week ahead. These sessions are designed for campaign partners, volunteers, advocates, subject-matter experts, and anyone who wants to help expand the conversation around cannabis safety.

PATIENT ADVOCACY IN ACTION: TOOLS FOR CANNABIS SAFETY
For more than two decades, Americans for Safe Access has leveraged its network of patients, advocates, healthcare professionals, researchers, regulators, and other experts to develop practical resources for medical cannabis stakeholders.
In honor of Cannabis Safety Month, ASA has brought together a new collection of guides, educational materials, advocacy tools, and other resources designed to help patients, caregivers, advocates, and community partners navigate some of the most important cannabis safety issues facing their communities today.
Patient Advocacy in Action: Tools for Cannabis Safety gives participants a guided tour of these new resources and shows how to put them to work in real-life situations. Each program takes a deeper look at one issue and walks participants through the tools, questions, and strategies they can use—from understanding new federal medical cannabis laws and asserting patient rights to evaluating cannabis products, making sense of research, talking with young people about cannabis, and connecting safety concerns to policy solutions.
Each event provides a practical roadmap: what you need to know, what to look for, what questions to ask, and which ASA resources can help you take the next step.
The resources and programs launched during Cannabis Safety Month are designed for continued use throughout the year, giving patients and advocates reliable tools they can return to as laws, science, products, and public conversations about cannabis continue to evolve.
Federal Laws Have Changed. Policies & Stigma Haven’t: Navigating Medical Cannabis Rights & Discrimination in a New Era

Federal cannabis policy is changing, but the rules patients encounter at work, in housing, in healthcare, and in other institutions may not change as quickly. This program will help patients and caregivers understand the new federal medical cannabis framework, recognize where protections remain limited, and use new ASA resources to assert their rights, document problems, request answers, and report medical cannabis discrimination.
What’s in Your Cannabis? Navigating Cannabis Safety

Knowing what is in a cannabis product—and what may be missing from the label—is an important part of making safer choices. This program will guide participants through new ASA resources for understanding labels, potency and serving information, certificates of analysis, contaminants, recalls, and the limits of laboratory testing, while showing patients and consumers what questions to ask about the products they use.
Research Wars: A Patient Advocate’s Guide to Finding Meaning Beyond the Headlines

Cannabis research is frequently reduced to headlines, talking points, and social media claims that leave out important context. This program will give patients and advocates practical tools to look beyond the headline, understand what a study actually examined, recognize its limitations, distinguish correlation from causation, and decide whether the evidence supports the conclusions.
Talking to Your Kids About Medical Cannabis
September 23, 2026 | 5:00 p.m. PT / 8:00 p.m. ET
Young people receive messages about cannabis from friends, schools, social media, advertising, entertainment, and the adults around them. This program will introduce new ASA resources to help parents and caregivers have honest, age-appropriate conversations about medical cannabis, youth use, impairment, product safety, misinformation, safe storage, and family expectations without relying on fear-based or unrealistic messages.
Connecting Cannabis Safety to Policy

Many cannabis safety concerns cannot be addressed by individual choices alone; laws, regulations, institutional policies, and industry standards also shape patient and community safety. This program will show participants how to use ASA tools, patient experiences, public health information, discrimination reports, and product-safety concerns to identify policy gaps, advocate for practical solutions, and engage policymakers and candidates on medical cannabis issues.

Partners may host or support town halls, watch parties, professional meetings, community discussions, and educational events designed for their own audiences.

We invite scientists, researchers, medical professionals, public health experts, advocates, educators, and other stakeholders to help identify credible research and resources on key cannabis safety topics.
The Resource Library is intended to create a shared foundation of credible evidence that can strengthen and unify how we communicate about cannabis safety.
A stronger shared evidence base can help the cannabis community acknowledge legitimate concerns, correct misinformation and exaggerated claims, identify where evidence is limited or evolving, and spotlight practical solutions, while making clear that cannabis safety concerns should be addressed through evidence-based policies and practices rather than used as justification for restricting safe medical cannabis access.
Media & Public Education — Take the conversation beyond campaign events.
Press briefings, interviews, op-eds, feature pitches, public service announcements, short videos, audio content, social media, and local media outreach will expand the reach of campaign information and public understanding.
Policy Briefings & Calls to Action — Connect safety concerns to policy solutions.
Policy memos, briefings, policymaker resources, and campaign actions will give partners and participants opportunities to turn lessons from Cannabis Safety Month into practical policy change.
