Connecting Cannabis Safety to Policy

Many cannabis safety concerns cannot be solved by individual behavior alone. Testing requirements, product standards, healthcare policies, employment protections, transportation rules, agency practices, and other public policies help determine whether patients and communities have the information, protections, and systems they need.

As part of Patient Advocacy in Action: Tools for Cannabis Safety, this closing Cannabis Safety Month program will show participants how to connect real-world safety concerns with practical policy solutions. ASA will walk through resources for using patient experiences, product-safety concerns, discrimination reports, and public health information in advocacy, and introduce ways to engage candidates and elected officials through ASA’s Compassionate Candidate Campaign.

The program will also identify practical ways for patients, caregivers, partners, and volunteers to carry the work of Cannabis Safety Month forward throughout the year and make cannabis safety part of the public conversation during the 2026 election season.
