Why Home Cultivation Matters for Patients

For many medical cannabis patients, home cultivation is not a novelty; it's a lifeline. While centralized production and distribution systems are important, they shouldn't be the sole source of medicine for patients. State-regulated dispensaries may not always stock the specific cultivars (strains, varieties) or products ideal for an individual’s needs. This is especially true as cannabis programs are shifting to accommodate adult use consumers.

Medical cannabis programs that do not include home cultivation put patients at the mercy of an unpredictable and often expensive market.  The discontinuation of a product or supply issues mean inconsistencies in treatment plans for patients, jeopardizing patient health outcomes. Home cultivation gives patients control over their healthcare needs, ensuring a consistent, affordable supply of the cannabis they need and oversight of growing conditions.

While most states & most US territories have passed laws allowing the legal use of medical cannabis in some form, as of 2024, only 24 of these states & DC allow patients or their caregivers to cultivate cannabis for themselves

RECREATIONAL ADULT USE & MEDICAL: AK, CA, CO, CT, ME, MD, MA, MI, MT, NV, NM, NY, OH, OR, RI, VT, VA, WA, & D.C.

MEDICAL ONLY: AZ, HI, IL, MO & OK
