11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the L.A. Athletic Club (4th Floor - Presidents Lounge), 431 W 7th St., Los Angeles, CA. Park in S. Olive Garage next door. Join local medical cannabis cultivators to help pass cultivation licensing ordinances in the city and county of LA. $100 at the door. Proceeds support the organization’s local work. July 7, 2016 - Berkeley Medical Cannabis Commission (Berkeley)

2:00 PM at Berkeley City Hall, 2180 Milvia St, (between Center and Alston), Redwood room, 6th floor, Berkeley, CA. The commission will be discussing new medical cannabis dispensary permits in the city. Email [email protected] for more information.

August 1, 2016 - Senate Appropriations Committee Hearing on Six Medical Cannabis Bills (Sacramento)

10:00 AM in room 4203 in the State Capitol Building in downtown Sacramento. The committee will vote on six medical cannabis bills.

  • AB 567 (Gipson) will create a tax amnesty program for medical cannabis businesses and organizations. ASA supports the bill.
  • AB 1575 (Bonta) is a cleanup bill for the MMRSA. ASA supports the bill.
  • AB 2243 (Wood) imposes a new tax on medical cannabis distributors. ASA opposes the bill.
  • AB 2385 (Jones-Sawyer) allows Los Angeles dispensaries qualified under Measure D to obtain state licenses. ASA has no position on the bill.
  • AB 2516 (Wood) creates a new "cottage cultivator" license under the MMRSA. ASA supports this bill.
  • AB 2679 (Cooley) expands the reporting requirements and research rules under the MMRSA. ASA has no position on the bill.

Patient Advocacy Group Releases Independent Analysis of Cannabis Scheduling

Today, Americans for Safe Access (ASA) disseminated copies of an independent 8-Factor Analysis conducted in support of current petitions requesting removal of cannabis (marijuana) from Schedule I status in the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). The document was sent to all members of Congress, as well as heads of the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), the DEA, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is about to make a very important decision regarding whether or not to reschedule cannabis from its Schedule I status. This decision will have substantial implications for the two million patients that currently have access to medical cannabis and cannabis products under state laws. Cannabis has been listed as a Schedule I substance - defined as a drug with high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use - along with heroin and LSD since the 1970’s. This Schedule I status makes it illegal to grow, possess, use, or distribute under federal law. While many other drugs have been rescheduled, cannabis has stayed in Schedule I for 46 years...
