Oppose AB 243 in the California Senate (California)
http://www.safeaccessnow.org/oppose_ab_243_in_the_california_senate

ASA is calling on members and friends to oppose AB 243 (Wood), a medical cannabis licensing and taxation bill in the California Senate. AB 243 will create new licensing requirements and regulations for most medical cannabis cultivation and imposes a new unspecified statewide tax on cultivation (in addition to any other existing taxes).

The licensing and regulations in this bill serve the same purpose as those in a more comprehensive regulatory proposal also pending in the state legislature. The Senate should wait until after this year’s session to see if this part of AB 243 is still needed.

The unspecified tax in AB 243 will mean higher costs for patients. While taxation is a necessary evil in politics, ASA does not like to see arbitrary taxes (“sin taxes”) added to medicine. The cost of implementing state regulations should be borne by licensed commercial cultivators as part of the licensing fees. Environmental remediation should be paid for by fines against a handful of bad actors who damage our ecosystems – not by those who follow the rules.

Medical Marijuana: A Patient Survey (California)
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/G9KM88X

Dr. James Colbert, Dr. Sarah McBane, and the CAPSLEAD (California Pharmacy Student Leadership) team from the UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy are conducting a research study to investigate medical marijuana's effectiveness in patients. The purpose of the study is to: (1) Measure the effectiveness of medical marijuana, and (2)Evaluate the education that patients have received regarding medical marijuana. Read more about the study and your rights as a participant online. This study is not a project of ASA. We are simply passing along the link for consideration.

ASA-CCSA Email Discussion List
http://www.safeaccessnow.org/asa_ccsa_email_discussion_list

I want to invite you to join a new email discussion list ASA is launching to help facilitate conversations about medical cannabis issues in California. The ASA California Campaign for Safe Access (ASA-CCSA) mailing list will be a primary contact point for patients, advocates, and others to share ideas and constructive debate on state legislation, local ordinances, initiatives, and court cases.

You can use this low-volume list to talk to patients, industry workers, doctors, advocates, and others who share your passion about medical cannabis. The list is a great way to let others know what you are working on, share your opinions, and get feedback from the community. I will be using the list to get your input on ASA’s state and local campaigns.
