The Professional Standard Award highlights a professional development, continuing education, certification, academic, or workforce training program that improves cannabis safety knowledge and practice among healthcare professionals, regulators, educators, cannabis workers, public-safety personnel, or other professionals whose work affects cannabis safety.
One of the recurring themes of Cannabis Safety Month is that consumers and patients should not be expected to navigate cannabis entirely on their own. Professionals who advise patients, regulate products, manufacture or sell cannabis, respond to emergencies, enforce laws, or educate the public need accurate and current training appropriate to their responsibilities.
The future of medical cannabis requires a knowledgeable professional infrastructure. Programs recognized through this award are helping cannabis move from a specialized or stigmatized subject toward an area where clinicians, regulators, educators, and other professionals can apply established standards of competence, ethics, continuing education, and accountability.
