Cannify is a science-focused cannabis education and pharmacological-expertise company founded in 2016 by Linda Klumpers, PhD. Its work is centered on translating peer-reviewed cannabinoid pharmacology into practical, evidence-informed education for patients, consumers, dispensary staff, clinicians, and regulators.
One of its primary areas of focus is the point of sale, where consumers often look to dispensary staff for guidance even though those employees are not clinicians and may be limited in what they can appropriately say about medical use, dosing, or product selection. Cannify Medical Budtender Basics was created to address that gap without asking retail staff to step outside their role.
At the center of the program is BUDDY™—Budtenders’ Dos and Don’ts—an evidence-informed communication framework that helps staff understand a patient’s needs, recognize relevant context and risk factors, provide responsible education, and know when to refer a patient to a healthcare professional. The training also emphasizes cannabis information literacy so staff can continue finding and evaluating credible information rather than relying on a fixed script or commercial talking points.
In 2026, Vermont adopted the program as mandatory training for dispensary staff serving medical cannabis patients through the Budtender Medical Education Program developed with the Vermont Cannabis Control Board. The curriculum is grounded in peer-reviewed pharmacology, independent of product manufacturers, and delivered by a multidisciplinary faculty that includes cannabinoid researchers, a pharmacist with experience in state medical cannabis programs, and a University of Vermont botanist who directs its Medical Cannabis Center for Research and Education.
Cannify embodies the Professional Standard Award by turning cannabinoid science into practical education with clear professional boundaries, measurable learning outcomes, and independence from commercial influence. Its work helps raise the quality and consistency of the guidance patients and consumers receive at both the retail and clinical levels.

“Cannify is honored to be named a nominee for a 2026 Americans for Safe Access Cannabis Safety Award. Our science-based education for budtenders is grounded in peer-reviewed pharmacology and delivered by a team of cannabinoid PhDs and a cannabis pharmacist. Cannify's founder, Dr. Linda Klumpers, is a clinical pharmacologist with 20 years of cannabinoid research experience. The Cannify Medical Budtender Basics course, built on the BUDDY™ framework, has been shown to improve budtenders' knowledge and confidence, and it is now Vermont's state-mandated training. Our goal is to give patients in every state the same standard of safe, science-based guidance.” |
