CliniCan Foundations is a continuing-education program developed by the International Society of Cannabis Pharmacists (ISCPh) to establish a more consistent clinical foundation for cannabinoid care. It is designed for healthcare professionals across disciplines, from clinicians encountering medical cannabis for the first time to experienced practitioners who want to update or standardize their knowledge.

The program responds to a training gap that becomes more consequential as cannabinoid therapies appear more often in patient care. Clinicians may be expected to discuss treatment response, adverse effects, drug interactions, product selection, dosing, and therapeutic monitoring even though formal cannabis education remains inconsistent across professional schools and health systems.

CliniCan Foundations addresses those needs through curriculum on cannabinoid pharmacology, the endocannabinoid system, products and formulations, dosing and titration, adverse effects, interactions, patient assessment, monitoring, and practical application. Continuing education credit is currently approved for pharmacists, while the content is built for interdisciplinary clinical use. The program draws on pharmacists, clinicians, researchers, and subject-matter experts from different healthcare settings to provide professionals a common evidence base to evaluate benefits, risks, and medication-safety concerns.

The International Society of Cannabis Pharmacists embodies the Professional Standard Award by establishing the knowledge clinicians need to provide safer, more consistent cannabinoid care and giving healthcare professionals a structured way to build those skills.

“ISCPh is honored to be recognized for advancing cannabis safety through education. We are committed to providing healthcare professionals with practical, evidence-based training that supports safer patient care, informed counseling, and thoughtful integration of cannabis into clinical practice.”
