Know Your Rights­

ASA's Know Your Rights trainings cover the basics of your rights as a medical marijuana patient - and how cops try to trick you out of these rights. Fun and interactive, these workshops deal with law on the street. We can also provide material for coops and dispensaries: such as security culture and raid preparedness.

Public Defender and Attorney Trainings

ASA has developed resources on medical cannabis for public defenders and private attorneys.  The trainings include information on precedent setting rulings, strategies on defending medical marijuana cases, and answers to questions from people with pending criminal cases.

Art

This workshop teaches participants how to create effective art for political actions. During this session, we work on art projects including banners, puppets, and signs. We also focus on how to tie art with political messaging.

Strategy

This training is a structured discussion about developing political strategies. We use the effective action concept to explore strategies appropriate to medical marijuana advocacy.

Media

In this workshop, trainers offer participants an overview of how the news media operates. Discussion and strategic thinking about the newsworthiness of direct actions, a checklist of nuts-and-bolts tasks necessary for a successful action, and practical experience in crafting leads and sound bites, writing press releases, pitching the story, "spin control" and message delivery.

Citizen Lobbying

This training prepares local activists to lobby local, state, and federal elected officials on medical marijuana issues. It teaches participants how to set up meetings, to choose and stick to a message, to conduct a meeting successfully, and to follow up.

Action Planning

This training teaches activists about important action details, such as making an action accessible to the media and how to determine when to end an action.

Medical Uses of Cannabis and the Rights of Doctors

ASA is developing a medical advisory board to assess needs and train doctors and other health care professionals on medical cannabis, understanding the law and their rights when recommending medical cannabis.
