“I've heard great things having to do with medical [cannabis]... for pain and various things. I've heard some pretty good things.” — President Trump |

He's right, millions of Americans and their medical professionals have "Great Things" to say about medical cannabis...
Nearly 3 in 10 chronic pain patients use cannabis to manage pain and function—often reducing or replacing opioids. Over 68 million Americans live with chronic pain.
More than 40% of people with cancer report cannabis use for sleep, mood, stress, anxiety, depression, and pain.
Nearly 1 in 5 older adults use cannabis, especially for chronic pain, arthritis, sleep, and appetite. At 57.8 million strong, the 65+ population is the fastest-growing demographic of medical cannabis patients (U.S. Census, 2023).
22% of U.S. veterans use cannabis for PTSD, pain, and sleep. With 15.8 million veterans, and nearly a third living with a disability, the need is urgent.
Medical Cannabis Decreases Opioid-Related Mortality: Data show that when a county opens its first dispensary, opioid death rates fall. After ten years, opioid deaths are 30% lower than in counties without dispensaries (Washington Post, Julien Berman).
Trump also told reporters that his Administration would be addressing cannabis scheduling in the upcoming weeks. However, rescheduling alone won’t resolve the problems patients who rely on medical cannabis encounter. Only a bold, comprehensive approach will.
It's Time for A BOLD, BEAUTIFUL BREAKTHROUGH for Medical Cannabis!
"GREAT THINGS " TRUMP CAN DO...
Finish the rescheduling process, create an Office of Medical Cannabis & Cannabinoid Control (OMC) at HHS, as outlined in ASA’s model legislation, end evictions of medical cannabis patients in federal housing, allow VA doctors to recommend cannabis, and end cannabis drug testing for federal employees. Ask Congress to pass medical cannabis legislation that moves oversight to the OMC and establishes a dedicated cannabis schedule (Schedule VI) aligned with treaty obligations.
WHAT YOU CAN DO....
Over the next few weeks, cannabis will be on the President’s mind and in the media. Let's flood social feeds, news outlets, and elected officials' offices with patient stories about the “great things” medical cannabis has brought to their lives and the challenges they face because of federal law.
