SafeTiva Labs is an independent cannabis testing laboratory in Westfield, Massachusetts, founded in 2022 by molecular biologist and former college professor Dr. Megan Dobro. The laboratory was built on a straightforward principle: cannabis safety depends on data you can trust.

That responsibility is significant because testing laboratories sit near the end of the chain between production and the consumer. Cannabis and cannabis products are analyzed for potency, pesticides, residual solvents, microbial contaminants, heavy metals, terpenes, and other measures required under Massachusetts regulations. Those results help determine whether products reach dispensary shelves and what patients and consumers are told.

A deeper challenge within cannabis testing is the commercial pressure laboratories can face to produce favorable results. Potency can affect product value, while contaminant failures can prevent products from being sold. In a market where clients may seek out laboratories reporting higher THC numbers or fewer failures, scientific integrity can become a competitive disadvantage.

Rather than compete on favorable outcomes, the laboratory prioritizes analytical accuracy, validated methodologies, experienced scientists, rigorous quality systems, and results that clients can defend. That includes reporting findings that may be financially inconvenient, including results that prevent a product from entering the market.

Their work also extends beyond pass-or-fail testing. SafeTiva works directly with cultivators, manufacturers, and other operators to help interpret analytical findings, identify production problems, improve processes, and produce more consistent products. It also advocates for stronger and more scientifically sound testing practices across Massachusetts, recognizing that the reliability of one laboratory cannot compensate for weaknesses across an entire testing system.

A label can only be as reliable as the testing behind it. At SafeTiva, we treat every result as data with consequences.

“Being nominated for a Cannabis Safety Award is incredibly meaningful to all of us at SafeTiva. We started this lab because we believe cannabis testing should be grounded in science, integrity, and a genuine commitment to protecting consumers. That’s why we put ‘Safe’ in our name. Every result we produce has the potential to affect someone’s health and safety, and we take that responsibility seriously. I’m especially proud of the team we’ve built and the way they show up every day to do this work carefully, honestly, and well. It’s an honor to have that commitment recognized.” — Megan Dobro, PhD, CEO and Co-Founder

SafeTiva Labs embodies the Full Disclosure Award by defending the integrity of the information patients, consumers, businesses, and regulators rely on. Before potency or safety results ever appear on a label or Certificate of Analysis, someone has to ensure those numbers are accurate, reproducible, and reported without pressure to make them look better. SafeTiva’s work helps protect that foundation of trust.
