Patients for Safe Access of Oklahoma takes consumer protection directly into the marketplace. The project raises funds for third-party laboratory testing of hemp products outside Oklahoma’s regulated medical cannabis system, as well as medical cannabis products within the program following adverse events in the patient community. By making the results public, the organization educates patients, families, and consumers about contaminants, inaccurate labeling, potency concerns, and other product safety issues.
The project creates an important bridge between patient experience and marketplace oversight. When patients report an adverse event or raise concerns about a product, independent testing can help identify what may have gone wrong and whether the problem points to a larger gap in testing, labeling, enforcement, or regulation.
Patients for Safe Access of Oklahoma's advocacy includes sharing lab findings with policymakers at the Oklahoma State Capitol and participating in legislative interim studies. Their work helps turn individual patient experiences into evidence that can be examined, shared, and used to push for stronger protections.
The Market Watch Award celebrates patient advocates who challenge product safety claims, independently examine what is being sold, and push for greater transparency and accountability when the marketplace falls short.
