Clean Torch is designed for whole flower, giving patients who need the rapid onset of inhalation an option beyond combustion or formulated vape products. Patented in 2019 as a dual-purpose portable vaporizer and electric heating device, Clean Torch uses flameless heat to support whole-flower inhalation while allowing patients to keep access to the plant itself.
One of Clean Torch’s distinguishing features is that inhalation rate influences the temperature applied to the flower, giving patients greater control over how the cannabis is heated during use. The compact rechargeable system is designed for patients who rely on inhaled whole flower as part of their medical cannabis regimen, where rapid onset can allow them to assess effects and make incremental decisions about additional dosing.
Clean Torch addresses three additional safety and usability concerns for patients.
Reducing exposure associated with conventional butane lighters. Clean Torch eliminates the need to hold a petroleum-based butane flame directly against cannabis during inhalation. The company is working with a medical cannabis physician to evaluate butane exposure associated with conventional lighter use and reports patient experiences that have contributed to its interest in studying this issue more closely.
Improving accessibility for patients with physical limitations. Conventional lighters require finger strength, coordination, and sustained pressure that can create barriers for patients living with severe arthritis, ALS, injuries, or other conditions affecting dexterity or mobility. Clean Torch uses a rechargeable, button-activated design to reduce that physical demand and make independent use easier.
Reducing direct flame exposure. The flameless system removes an open flame from the immediate inhalation process and uses a brass and ceramic interior with an FeCrAl heating coil. The coil is rated for temperatures substantially above the device’s maximum operating temperature of approximately 490°F, which the company designed to reduce concerns about material degradation.
Clean Torch recognizes that patient safety depends not only on the cannabis being used, but also on how the medicine is heated and inhaled, whether a patient can operate the device independently, and whether the technology gives patients meaningful control over their use and dose.
