Retired Cop Endorses San Leandro Medical Cannabis Dispensaries, Blasts Drug War

When former police officer Gregg Daly stood up to speak at the San Leandro City Council meeting last week regarding medical cannabis dispensaries, many pro-marijuana activists feared the worst. Instead, Daly resoundingly endorsed dispensaries in San Leandro and blasted - nay, nuked - the ongoing prohibition of marijuana in this country.

Events

Monday, September 23 - Working Together: A Shadow Event at the 1st Annual Marijuana Policy and Strategy Conference

Americans for Safe Access and the Marijuana Anti-Prohibition Project are hosting a shadow event outside the 1st Annual Marijuana Policy and Strategy Conference to encourage law enforcement to work with medical cannabis patients to better regulate medical cannabis in California.

When: Monday, September 23, 2013 * 10:00 AM – 1:00PM
Where: The Plaza in front of Victoria Gardens Cultural Center
12505 Cultural Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91739

The conference is organized by Coalition for a Drug Free California and the Drug Free America Foundation with the goal, in part, of assisting law enforcement and local lawmakers in resisting implementation and regulation of medical cannabis. Attendees at this peaceful shadow event will be there to talk to the public, media, and conference attendees about the benefits of regulating medical cannabis at the state and local level. Come prepared for hot and sunny weather.

Saturday, November 16 - Safe Access Night with SF Bulls Pro Hockey

Americans for Safe Access and San Francisco Bulls Hockey have teamed up to offer Safe Access Night at the Cow Pallace. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to ASA, so come join other advocates for a night of hard hitting hockey!

Support HR 689: The States' Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act

On August 29, Attorney General Eric Holder and the DOJ announced a shift in policyregarding federal enforcement of state-sponsored marijuana programs. A memo was also issued by Deputy AG James Cole to US Attorneys that explained the new "trust but verify" approach as well as instituting new guidelines for prosecution.

This is great news for our community, but it is a shift in policy not a change in law which means cannabis is still illegal at the federal level in the US. Help us turn this shift in policy into actual law by reaching out to your Congressperson to support legislation like HR 689.

California Patient Survey

Because California has no mandatory state registration for medical cannabis patients, there is very little known about the patient population of the state. Please fill out this completely anonymous 10 question survey for California patients so that we can use this data in our efforts to bring safe access to all parts of the state.
