 Public Meetings & Events

August 26, 2015 - Improving Analysis and Quality Control of Cannabis Products Using Complementary Analytical Techniques (Online)
8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. Register  and get more information at http://www.safeaccessnow.org/improve_analysis_and_quality_control?utm_campaign=wrkshppromosup1&utm_medium=email&utm_source=americansforsafeaccess In this workshop you will learn how flash chromatography, equipped with universal detection technology, can address quality control challenges by offering a more efficient way to isolate cannabinoids and other compounds of interest from complex matrices. Get hands-on experience using flash in conjunction with other analytical techniques to remove matrix interferences, quantify low-level cannabinoid in edibles and topicals, and create your own reference standards.

August 26, 2015 – Assembly Appropriations Hearing on SB 643 (Sacramento)
9:00 AM in Room 4202 in the State Capitol Building in downtown Sacramento. The committee will hear testimony on SB 643 (McGuire), which will regulate and license commercial medical cannabis activity. The recently amended bill is very similar to AB 266 (Bonta). ASA supports SB 643, with reservations. You can watch the hearing live at http://www.calchannel.com/live-webcast/ Visit http://www.safeaccessnow.org/2015_legislation for more information about medical cannabis bills.

August 27, 2015 – Senate Appropriations Hearing on AB 243 and AB 266 (Sacramento)
The hearing begins in Room 4203 in the State Capitol Building in downtown Sacramento after the Senate Floor Session adjourns (time uncertain). During this “Suspense Hearing,” the committee will announce whether they will send two medical cannabis bills to the floor for a vote or hold them in committee (meaning they cannot be adopted this year). There will be no testimony. AB 243 (Wood) would require state and local licensing for most medical cannabis cultivation and impose a new excise tax by weight on commercial cultivation. ASA opposes this bill. AB 266 (Bonta) will regulate and license commercial medical cannabis activity. The bill is very similar to the newly amended SB 643 (McGuire). ASA supports AB 266, with reservations. You can watch the hearing live at http://www.calchannel.com/live-webcast/ Visit http://www.safeaccessnow.org/2015_legislation for more information about medical cannabis bills.

Sign the Petition to Ask Your Representative and Senators to Sign on to the CARERS Act! (National)
http://www.safeaccessnow.org/senate_carers_act_petition

The CARERS Act is the most comprehensive piece of federal medical marijuana legislation that has ever been introduced in both the U.S. House and Senate. The bipartisan legislation would remedy the state-federal conflict over medical marijuana laws. The bill would allow state programs to continue without federal inference, move marijuana out of Schedule I, remove CBD from the scheduling, create access to banking services for legal marijuana businesses, end the Public Health service review process and NIDA monopoly that blocks research, and allow VA doctors to write recommendations in states that have a medical marijuana program. Sign the petition to support CARERS today.

Medical Marijuana: A Patient Survey
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/G9KM88X

Dr. James Colbert, Dr. Sarah McBane, and the CAPSLEAD (California Pharmacy Student Leadership) team from the UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy are conducting a research study to investigate medical marijuana's effectiveness in patients. The purpose of the study is to: (1) Measure the effectiveness of medical marijuana, and (2)Evaluate the education that patients have received regarding medical marijuana. Read more about the study and your rights as a participant online. This study is not a project of ASA. We are simply passing along the link for consideration.

ASA-CCSA Email Discussion List
http://www.safeaccessnow.org/asa_ccsa_email_discussion_list

I want to invite you to join a new email discussion list ASA is launching to help facilitate conversations about medical cannabis issues in California. The ASA California Campaign for Safe Access (ASA-CCSA) mailing list will be a primary contact point for patients, advocates, and others to share ideas and constructive debate on state legislation, local ordinances, initiatives, and court cases.

You can use this low-volume list to talk to patients, industry workers, doctors, advocates, and others who share your passion about medical cannabis. The list is a great way to let others know what you are working on, share your opinions, and get feedback from the community. I will be using the list to get your input on ASA’s state and local campaigns.
