Jan Morton is a patient advocate whose work is rooted in lived experience and more than 13 years of helping patients and caregivers navigate cannabinoid therapies, changing laws, and an often confusing information landscape. Her advocacy began with her own search for answers at a time when reliable guidance was difficult to find. What started as self-education quickly became a commitment to helping others find credible information, practical support, and a stronger voice in decisions affecting their care.
Before joining Realm of Caring Foundation, Morton opened one of the first CBD stores in Kansas, where education was central to her work. She spent years helping individuals and families understand cannabinoid products, ask better questions, and make more informed choices without judgment. That experience reinforced a principle that continues to guide her advocacy: access means more than having products available. Patients also need trustworthy information, knowledgeable support, and the confidence to advocate for themselves.
Through Realm of Caring, Morton works directly with patients and families navigating cannabinoid based therapies, often amid conflicting information, limited access to knowledgeable professionals, and systems that can be difficult to understand. She connects people with credible resources, research participation opportunities, and individualized support, while bringing the questions and barriers patients encounter into broader conversations about education, healthcare, research, and policy.
In 2026, Morton expanded that work into federal policy engagement. She has coordinated and led meetings between constituents and congressional offices, helping patients and caregivers bring their experiences directly to policymakers considering changes to federal hemp law. She also works to strengthen partnerships across the cannabis community and ensure that patient experience informs conversations about safety, access, research, and public policy.
Morton has watched the cannabis landscape change dramatically over more than a decade. While some patients now have access to far more products and legal options, others still face significant barriers. Even where cannabis is available, navigating product choices, conflicting claims, changing rules, and limited clinical guidance can remain difficult. Her work focuses on closing that gap between legal availability and meaningful, informed access.
“I believe patients and caregivers deserve not only trustworthy cannabis education and practical support, but a meaningful voice in the conversations and decisions that affect them. Helping people feel informed, heard, respected, and empowered to advocate for themselves is at the heart of the work I do.”
Jan Morton’s advocacy reflects the heart of the Patient Voice Award: ensuring patient experience doesn't end with an individual story, but becomes part of the research, education, healthcare, and policy decisions that shape cannabis access and safety.
