Pesticides are a broad class of chemicals that include herbicides, fungicides, insecticides & rodenticides.
They are crop-control agents used by cultivation operators to prevent infestation by pests & are generally highly regulated.
Many pesticides have cumulative health effects meaning the more a person is exposed, the greater the potential health risk is. Pesticide exposure may be either acute or chronic and can result in varying degrees of toxicity. Acute toxicity is when a single dose causes an adverse health event, while chronic toxicity is a result of long-term exposure to a chemical.
Most pesticides are broken down & removed from the body by the liver & kidneys. The liver and kidneys may become less able to remove pesticides from the body if someone is taking several types of prescription drugs.
