I wish I could do more
If you’re like me, you sometimes think, “I wish I could do more to help medical cannabis patients.” Well, we can do more right now. You have helped ASA score some big victories for medical cannabis patients this year. In May, you helped us win one of our biggest victories yet, when the US House of Representatives voted to cut off funding for federal raids, arrests, and prosecutions in states where medical cannabis is legal. And then in July, the House voted again to protect the rights of cannabis businesses to serve the needs of patients in medical states.
These are historic victories, but we are not finished with the campaign to secure safe, legal, and dignified access for everyone who needs it.
Even in states where medical cannabis is already legal, patients face discrimination in employment, housing, parental rights, and equal access to health care. Too many are still tangled up in the criminal justice system, because of their legal medical cannabis use. We can stop this and change federal law, but we need your help to do it.
Have you seen ASA’s recent report entitled “Medical Marijuana Access in the United States”? The report shows where states are succeeding and failing in meeting the needs of real patients – patients who need medical cannabis to treat the symptoms of cancer, HIV/AIDS, Multiple Sclerosis, chronic pain, and other serious conditions. We have to build on our momentum right now to help them.
