Position Description:
Americans for Safe Access (ASA) Government Affairs Intern/Fellows are responsible for researching and organizing materials to support ASA’s legislative and regulatory advocacy campaigns. This includes tracking state and federal legislation, assisting in policy analysis, preparing for meetings and events, and supporting published research projects. Interns will also assist in preparing for ASA’s participation in hearings, briefings, and meetings with government officials.
Interns will learn about ASA’s priority state and federal issues and how to interact with federal departments, agencies, Congress, and state and local governments. ASA gives interns, fellows, and volunteers priority for staff positions.
Internships/fellowships are unpaid positions that can be used for course credit, if applicable. ASA gives interns, fellows, and volunteers priority for staff positions.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with legislative and regulatory processes
- Experience with medical cannabis patients a plus
- Passion for ASA’s mission and goals
- Experience with political campaigns, lobbying, or grassroots organizing preferred
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Sense of humor a must
- Flexible schedule, availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 hours per week for eight weeks (greater availability facilitates more substantive internship opportunities).
- Access to a computer and the ability to make voice calls
