Use the media to amplify the importance of medical cannabis policy in the 2024 election by utilizing "Letters to Editor."

1. Search for recent local news stories about cannabis, the federal candidates, or 2024 election issues

2. Find the instructions for submitting an LTE

Example for Letters to the Editor:

Re: Harris and Trump support legalizing cannabis

“As presidential candidates talk about cannabis policy, the focus should be on Congress. With 468 Congressional and Senate races, it’s vital to ask candidates where they stand on medical cannabis. Only Congress can create a national medical cannabis program and ensure patients have legal protections. I am calling on [CANDIDATES NAMES] to sign the Compassionate Candidate Pledge https://www.safeaccessnow.org/compassionate_candidate_pledge.”

"As a medical cannabis patient, I’m frustrated by the lack of focus on Congressional races. This election, we have a chance to ensure that patient protections are finally established. We need representatives who will champion compassionate, patient-centered policies. I am calling on [CANDIDATES NAMES] to sign the Compassionate Candidate Pledge https://www.safeaccessnow.org/compassionate_candidate_pledge.”

"As presidential candidates talk about cannabis policy, the focus on cannabis policy should be on Congress. While the President can sign bills and direct agencies, they can’t change the laws that govern medical cannabis. With 468 Congressional and Senate races this year, it’s critical we ask candidates where they stand on medical cannabis. These are the people who will decide whether millions of patients finally get the protections they deserve. Congress, not the President, holds the power to create a national medical cannabis program and ensure patients aren’t risking their housing or jobs just to access medicine.  Patients in (STATE) are calling on CANDIDATE NAMES to sign the Compassionate pledge https://www.safeaccessnow.org/compassionate_candidate_pledge"

"As a medical cannabis caregiver, I’m frustrated by the lack of focus on Congressional races when it comes to cannabis policy. While presidential candidates make headlines, the reality is that only Congress can enact the comprehensive legislation that millions of patients need. This election, 468 Congressional and Senate seats are at stake—each critical in determining whether patients like me will be allowed protections under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Housing Act. Medical cannabis patients need representatives who will fight for comprehensive legislation that protects our rights and access to treatment. We need representatives who will champion compassionate, patient-centered policies. I am calling on CANDIDATES NAMES to sign the Compassionate pledge so that patients know where you stand https://www.safeaccessnow.org/compassionate_candidate_pledge"
