Becoming a Caregiver Producer or Provider in Michigan


Primary caregivers may cultivate marihuana for qualifying patients and patients may grow medicine for themselves. A person can be a caregiver for up to five patients. Caregivers can also receive compensation for the costs of their services.

Currently MI law does not allow for the commercial sales or production of medical cannabis. While a few cities in MI have passed laws allowing for distribution, such as Ann Arbor and Detroit; however, the MI Supreme Court Ruled in State vs. McQueen that dispensaries are not authorized to operate in Michigan, but see Act 281, Public Acts of 2016, to go into effect in 2017.
