What is an ASA Affiliate?
ASA Affiliates are separately incorporated organizations that share ASA’s mission, vision, and goal and have five or more paid ASA members. They may represent ASA on state-specific medical cannabis issues in a geographical area not covered by an ASA chapter or work with a local chapter to further ASA's mission. ASA Affiliates agree to work on ASA national campaigns and initiatives.
ASA Affiliates must sign an affiliate agreement, designate a member to attend organizing calls, agree to donate $50/month, a one-time annual donation of $500, or agree to hold an annual fundraiser that raises $500 or more. ASA affiliates are encouraged to add ASA as an admin/manager to their social media accounts and must note their affiliation with ASA on their website and appropriate materials.
ASA Affiliates may opt-in to ASA’s reciprocal memberships program, participate in organizing calls with ASA’s national network, and can request time with ASA senior staff for advice on legislation or other issues, are listed on ASA’s advocacy page on the ASA website, including contact information and public meeting details, can provide updates in ASA Newsletters, receive press outreach support, and can request support from ASA to promote events and actions through ASA’s social media channels and email lists.
What is the difference between an ASA Affiliates, an ASA Chapter, or an ASA Action Group?
- ASA Affiliates are separately incorporated organizations that work with ASA on programming and represent ASA within a specified region or community.
- ASA Action Groups are self-selecting groups of activists who want to work together on medical cannabis issues. ASA Chapters are community groups that represent ASA in a specific community and have elections, rules, and officeholders.
- Chapters must have at least ten current dues-paying ASA members and agree to raise funds for ASA as part of their Affiliation Agreement. Action Groups must have at least three current ASA members.
- Action Groups and Affiliates cannot use the ASA name or logo without the explicit permission of ASA National. This includes outreach, social media, and fundraising.
