The Small Business Tax Equity Act was introduced by Rep. Earl Blumenauer. Under Section 280E of the Internal Revenue Service Tax Code, business are not allowed to make standard business deductions for expenses related to the sale of Schedule I substances, such as marijuana. The bill would create an exemption to 280E that would allow state authorized medical marijuana to make deductions in the same manner as any other legal business. As of September 29, 2014, the bill has 15 cosponsors, but has not had a committee hearing.
