VMMJ Action Center Take Action to Support Medical Marijuana
Write a Letter to the Editor – Members of Congress and their staff keep track of what’s happening at home by reading local newspapers. When you submit a Letter to the Editor that mentions your U.S. Senators by name, you’re almost certain to get their attention. We’ve made this one really simple by creating a template you can use to send a pre-written letter to every newspaper in your area.
On May 30, 2014, the US House of Representatives voted to cut off funding for federal medical cannabis raids, arrests, and prosecutions in states where it is legal, by a vote of 219-189. Sponsored by Congressmen Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), Sam Farr (D-CA), and 10 other House Democrats and Republicans, this was arguably the most historic vote yet in the contemporary fight for medical cannabis rights.
Now the CJS amendment is about to be introduced in the Senate by Senators Rand Paul (R-KY) and Cory Booker (D-NJ). The vote is likely to take place VERY soon, as early as Thursday night or Friday morning. More than ever, we need your help contacting your Senators and asking for their support to this amendment.
This Congressional vote is a huge victory for patients. No longer will we have to look over our shoulder and worry when the next raid or indictment will prevent us from safely and legally accessing our medicine. This is a game-changer that paves the way for much more policy change to come. Please take a minute to send your Representative a Thank You letter or a letter expressing your disappointment about them not supporting the amendment!

On Wednesday, April 30th, Congress voted on an amendment to HR 4486 - Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2015 introduced by Representative Blumenauer. Rep. Blumenauer's amendment, the "Veterans Equal Access Amendment", would have allowed Veterans Administration physicians to recommend medical cannabis to qualified patients in states where it is legal.
