Background

In 2007, New Mexico enacted Senate Bill 523, allowing registered patients to either receive a Personal Production License (PPL) to grow medical cannabis for personal use or obtain their medicine from a Licensed Non-Profit Producers (LNPP). Registered caregivers may assist up to four qualifying patients. Registered patients or their caregivers may possess up to six ounces of usable cannabis. Those licensed to produce their own medicine may cultivate up to 16 plants, of which no more than four can be mature.
