Background

In 1998, voters enacted the Maine Medical Marijuana Act. In 2002, the legislature increased possession limits. In 2009, the voters passed an initiative to create a distribution program and patient registry. In 2012, the legislature added privacy protections. Patients or caregivers may possess 2.5 ounces and cultivate six plants.
