Adult Use Ballot Measure: Maine Marijuana Legalization, Question 1

ASA’s Position: Neutral

Maine’s Question 1 would create a program under which adults over the age of 21 could possess and purchase marijuana from retail stores for non-medical purposes. ASA’s mission is focused exclusively on medical cannabis; and therefore, the organization generally does not take positions of support or opposition regarding adult-use (aka "recreational") marijuana laws. The ballot measure contains an explicit provision that the rights and privileges of patients, caregivers, and dispensaries under the medical cannabis program can not be restricted by Question 1. ASA has a neutral position on Maine’s Question 1.
