This training will offer an expanded Understanding the Law course which will include a Federal Law Enforcement interaction and raid preparedness training component. This 2-day course will also offer you 2 certifications for the price of 1. Day 2 will include both Distribution and Cultivation National Cannabis Standards Training courses. This offer is only available for this 2-Day training. We will also have all ASA staff on-site to answer any questions.

Patient Focused Certification (PFC) and its staff and alumni have trained more people in the medical cannabis industry than any other organization!  Whether you are applying for a medical cannabis license, hoping to obtain a job at a dispensary or cultivator, or just want to learn more about the industry, this class is for you.

This training is taught in sections, providing a well-rounded understanding of the history of medical cannabis laws, cannabis as medicine, cannabis science and research, running a safe cannabis business, compliance regulations specific to cultivation and processing, and state-specific laws and regulations. After completion of this course, and passing of exams (70% or higher) participants will receive a certification. 

PFC is a project of Americans for Safe Access, an organization with more than 15 years of experience and expertise. Our staff have trained thousands of medical cannabis industry professionals and regulators. Regulators from around the country have contacted PFC to prepare for inspections and assessments of medical cannabis companies. PFC is also the nation’s only program based on the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) guidelines and the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP) Cannabis monograph.  

Training Agenda:

DAY 1

Monday, January 29th

  • 10:00 – 10:30   Welcome
  • 10:30 – 11:30   Cannabis as Medicine
    The course gives participants an overview of the most current cannabis research, how cannabis works in the body, different varieties of cannabis and cannabinoids, and the various cannabis-based pharmaceuticals currently available.
  • 11:30 – 12:30   Business Operations
    The course teaches how to deliver the best quality of care to customers, how to handle interactions with Federal Law Enforcement, what to do in a medical emergency situation, and how to ensure the safety of cannabis products.
  • 12:30 – 1:30   Lunch Break
  • 1:30 – 4:00    Understanding the Law and Being Prepared for Law Enforcement Interactions
    The course is an overview of federal cannabis laws, the history of medical cannabis laws, which states have medical cannabis laws, and the conflict between state and federal laws. The course also includes a Federal Law Enforcement interaction and raid preparedness training component.

DAY 2

Tuesday, January 30th

  • 10:00 – 12:00   Maryland Legal and Regulatory Compliance Training
    These courses are designed to give individuals a comprehensive foundation of knowledge of the laws pertaining to Cannabis businesses, as well as, the regulations that govern day to day operations. The SRCT (State Regulatory Compliance Training) course is broken into two components: state and local laws & state and local regulations.
  • 12:00 – 1:00   Lunch Break
  • 1:00 – 2:00    Distribution Operations
    This course is designed to educate industry professionals about the particulars of compliance specific to the AHPA guidelines. In this guide you will learn the skills necessary to implement Best Management Practices relating to the distribution of cannabis and derived products directly to compliant individuals through storefront operations, delivery services, direct-from-garden operations, and growing co-op operations.
  • 2:00 – 3:30    Cultivation and Processing Operations
    This course is designed to educate industry professionals about the particulars of compliance specific to the AHPA Recommendations to Regulators.  Learn the skills necessary to implement Good Agricultural Practices including pesticide guidance, facility requirements, water resource management, recordkeeping, product safety recall systems, adverse event recording, and information disclosure.  
  • 3:30 – 3:45    Break
  • 3:45 – 5:45    Advanced Endocannabinoid System
    This course offers individuals specialized education that covers how cannabis works in the human body and in-depth look at current research. The course covers how THC, CBD, and other substances work in the human body by stimulating the endocannabinoid system and is recommended for people with a base knowledge in medical cannabis and in areas such as manufacturing, marketing, education, product development, laboratory managers and technicians, doctors and nurses.

Instructor: Jahan Marcu, Ph.D. is the Chief Science Officer for Americans for Safe Access and the Chief Auditor for Patient Focused Certification. He received his Ph.D. for studying the structure and function of the CB1 receptor, and the role of the endocannabinoid system in bone. Before earning his Ph.D., Dr. Marcu studyied the anti-cancer properties of compounds from the cannabis plant. The findings were published in the Journal of Molecular Cancer Therapeutics. He effectively translates complex scientific concepts to a lay audience. He has served as a volunteer for Americans for Safe Access (ASA) since 2003 and is also court qualified cannabis and synthetic cannabinoid expert.
