HR 1523 Respect State Marijuana Laws Act of 2013

Sponsored by Rep. Rohrabacher (R-CA), the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act would end the conflict between state and federal medical marijuana laws by prohibiting the federal government from enforcing the Controlled Substances Act against marijuana conduct that is legal under state law. HR 1523 would not reschedule marijuana, but would eliminate federal marijuana penalties for those acting in compliance with their state laws. As of September 29, 2014, the bill has 28 cosponsors, but has not had a committee hearing.
