WASHINGTON ( Reuters Health ) - Two people were arrested Monday after handcuffing themselves to the White House fence to protest recent federal government raids on 'medical marijuana' cooperatives in California. The arrests occurred after about two dozen demonstrators gathered in front of the White House, holding signs and chanting slogans demanding an end to what they see as Bush administration interference with state laws governing marijuana use.

SACRAMENTO -- Declaring that the war on drugs has unjustly been extended to the seriously ill in California who use marijuana at the advice of their physicians , hundreds protested at the state Capitol on Monday, calling on the federal government to leave people's medicine alone. The estimated 500 demonstrators, which included public officials from around the state, came here by the busloads, including a caravan from Los Angeles County all to urge federal officials to respect California's landmark, voter- approved medical marijuana law.

THE SANTA CRUZ rally for medical marijuana shows how strongly Californians feel about using cannabis products to relieve human suffering. Hundreds came to Tuesday's City Hall pot giveaway -- even the mayor, council members and a county supervisor. As did most of the participants, the public officials came to support the dozen or so gravely ill residents who rely on marijuana to ease the effects of chemotherapy, cancer and other diseases. But the rally went beyond a mere demonstration of compassion.

SACRAMENTO-Momentum and outrage continue to build in California and elsewhere in the wake of the Drug Enforcement Administration's September 6 raid of the Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana in Santa Cruz, CA. As reported on CNN, and in The New York Times, USA Today and others, WAMM distributed marijuana to cancer, AIDS, and other terminally ill patients on the steps of Santa Cruz city hall yesterday, backed by Mayor Christopher Krohn and several city council members, in a show of support for the patients and caregivers affected by the raid.
