A San Francisco Board of Supervisors committee Thursday chose one of three pieces of legislation aimed at regulating the city's medical marijuana dispensaries to pass on to the full board for consideration.

The Budget and Finance Committee chose legislation authored by Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi over ordinances proposed by supervisors Sean Elsbernd and Gerardo Sandoval.

The city is in the middle of a six-month moratorium on the opening of any new pot clubs, while officials draft and adopt new regulations.

Medical marijuana advocates have expressed concern that Mirkarimi's proposal could effectively shut down several existing dispensaries because of their proximity to schools and playgrounds.

Mirkarimi's proposal will be considered by the full board at its next meeting on Tuesday.
