N.M. man sues deputies over pot seizure
January 17, 2008
Leonard French presented the deputies with a state issued medical marijuana license when they raided his home near Loving in September, but the deputies still seized his pot plants and the pipe he used for smoking.
New Mexico law allows for the use of small amounts of marijuana for physician-approved medical treatment of symptoms of some chronic diseases.
The state law does not protect people from prosecution on federal narcotics charges, but French’s suit says that he was never charged with a federal crime.
