Seal Beach council to discuss pot dispensaries ban

The City Council on Monday will honor centenarian Frances W. Hood from Leisure World, elect a new mayor and mayor pro tem and hold a public hearing on prohibiting the establishment of marijuana dispensaries in the city.

Seal Beach is joining the increasing number of cities in Southern California prohibiting or considering the prohibition of medical marijuana dispensaries. Last month, Huntington Beach adopted an ordinance that banned them from opening.

The closest legal medical marijuana dispensaries are in Los Angeles, officials in Huntington Beach said

The council will also hear a presentation from the commanding general at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, James Combs.

The council will reorganize on Monday. John Larson is the current mayor, and Ray Ybaben is the mayor pro tem.
