Kern County Human Relations Meeting to discuss medical pot

September 11, 2007

Local medical marijuana patients plan to speak out about the recent raids that shut down several dispensaries around town.

They will gather at the monthly Human Relations Commission to talk about the closures.

They said they are suffering because all dispensaries in Kern County have been shut down and now have to get their needed medicine from other sources.

State law and county ordinance allows pot shops to operate, but federal law makes the sale of marijuana a crime. This is why Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood stopped issuing medical marijuana permits.

The Human Relations Commission Meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Kern County Board of Supervisors Chambers located at 1115 Truxtun Avenue.
