Medical marijuana advocates plan to demonstrate outside West Hollywood City Hall this morning, after raids by federal agents shut down eleven outlets around L.A. County.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents yesterday raided nearly a dozen medical marijuana clinics in the Los Angeles area, including five in West Hollywood.

They confiscated several thousand pounds of processed marijuana, along with weapons and money. Officials say several people were detained, but no arrests have been made.

Los Angeles DEA chief Ralph Partridge says the raids showed the clinics are "drug trafficking organizations bringing criminal activities to our neighborhoods and drugs near our children."

Medical marijuana advocate Steph Sherer denounced the DEA for denying seriously ill patients access to marijuana that they consider medicine.
