Coachella council to vote on dispensary moratorium
November 30, 2006
K. Kaufmann, Desert Sun (CA)The Coachella City Council is expected to vote at its meeting tonight on an emergency moratorium on the licensing of medical marijuana dispensaries in the city. A staff report accompanying the moratorium said the move was prompted by an "application to establish a medical marijuana dispensary in the City of Coachella in an existing medical office."
But City Manager Jerry Santillan said no application has been received, and the moratorium is intended as a proactive measure.
A four-fifths vote will be needed to pass the emergency measure, which would be in force for 45 days, till Jan. 13, and could be extended for a year.
The City Council meets at 6 p.m. today in the Council Chambers, 1515 Sixth Street.
