Medical marijuana will be on the agenda when the Public Safety Committee of the Coachella Valley Association of Governments meets 10 a.m. today at 73-710 Fred Waring Drive, Suite 119, in Palm Desert. Kevin Ruddy, chief deputy district attorney of Riverside County, will discuss recent developments surrounding the issue of medical marijuana in the county.

Earlier this month, the Board of Supervisors voted to ban medical marijuana dispensaries in unincorporated areas like Bermuda Dunes and Sky Valley. But dispensaries continue to operate in cities like Palm Springs and Palm Desert, both of which are considering their own ordinances.

CannaHelp, the Palm Desert dispensary, has now been open for a year in the El Paseo shopping district, and the city recently renewed its business license.

The Public Safey Committee meeting is open to the public.
