Pot ID Program May Restrict Allowable Possession Amounts

March 26, 2006

Calaveras County has a new medical marijuana identification program but could it mean less pot for patients?

The program is voluntary. It identifies legal users who have doctor's recommendations.

For the new program, the county adopted the state's possession limit of eight dried ounces.

It is not clear what this does to an old county general limit of two-pounds.

Health officials say the old one should be trumped.

It is also unclear which standard applies to users who don't have a card.

The board asked County Counsel to return at a later date with clarifications on what regulations now apply and to whom.
