A  state-mandated medical marijuana program was given the go-ahead by Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.
The board unanimously agreed to support the medical marijuana identification card program similar to the one in place in San Francisco. It will begin around March 1.

The county's public heath department will issue an estimated 2,600 cards to patients, allowing them to possess, transport, and grow marijuana.

Each card remains valid for one year and costs around $60.
