Medical marijuana advocates plan rally in Grand Rapids
January 10, 2011
Christa Graban, WZZM-TVThe group "Americans for Safe Access" plans to hold a rally in Grand Rapids Wednesday, protesting what patient advocates are calling increasing and unnecessary federal interference with medical marijuana guidelines.
The demonstration is one of three coordinated rallies planned throughout the day. Other rallies will take place in Las Vegas and on the State Capitol steps in Lansing.
Americans for Safe Access says the protests are in response to Drug Enforcement Administration raids that have taken place over the past six months. The group says the Justice Department is also trying to attain medical records for seven Michigan patients, despite strong privacy provisions written into the state's medical marijuana law.
The Grand Rapids rally will take place at the Federal Courthouse on 110 Michigan St. NW at 9 a.m.
