Become an ASA Ambassador
In case you didn't know - the actions we take in the next few months are going to help shape the medical cannabis policies of President Obama over the next four to eight years. There's a ton of excitement and many possibilities are staring us right in the face. Anything can happen in the next few years, so you need to make a choice: are you going to be a part of it or will you stay on the side and let other people take control of this movement? Get prepared to meet the challenges that these opportunities will present. How? Become an ASA Ambassador.
To change federal law, it'll take a commitment from every one of us. ASA invites you to make that commitment by joining our campaign for 2009: MAKE IT SAFE. MAKE IT LEGAL. MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Sign up now as an ASA Ambassador! There are two steps:
What is an ASA Ambassador?
Ambassadors are a representatives to their communities for all of our campaigns to provide safe access to medical cannabis for patients and research.
Ambassadors are the “go-between” for ASA’s campaigns and their own communities. New Ambassadors are added to national, state, and local ASA lists to stay on top of action in their area and nation-wide. They're obligated to participate in the Actions that are sent over these lists, and to send them off to other supporters and encourage them to take action, as well. Ambassadors send ASA actions to family, friends, political or social clubs, support groups, or other networks.
Ambassadors are liaisons to elected officials. ASA often targets specific lawmakers or other officials for action at the state and federal level. These targets may sit on important Congressional committees, be part of government agencies, or able to support our goals in other ways. Ambassadors in target districts are often asked to set up meetings with elected officials. This is an important role to play as an ASA Ambassador.
When these requests occur, you will be provided all the documents and preparation you need. These meetings are quick and painless, and are a chance to introduce yourself as a member of the ASA community. You’ll be working in tandem with the same policymakers as ASA’s Government Affairs Office in Washington, D.C. Constituent meetings are critical, so in addition to getting support from ASA for these meetings, you’ll be giving support to ASA’s D.C. staff, as well.
Ambassador Requirements:
Ambassadors who take action every time may be given even more opportunities to contribute. They might participate on ASA’s monthly organizer conference calls, join leading activists from around the country in talking political strategy, write a guest segment on ASA’s blog about their experiences, get props in ASA literature, be asked to start an ASA Chapter, or be given other forms of recognition!
