Start an ASA Chapter or Affiliate
ASA chapters and affiliates represent the core of ASA's grassroots activism, and have been spreading across the country like never before. If there is no chapter or affiliate in your region, consider starting one today. It's easy, and ASA staff will guide you through the process.
There are many ways to be involved with ASA, including starting an ASA chapter, organizing with an existing group as an ASA affiliate, or working as an individual activist through ASA's Ambassador Program. Read "Working with ASA" in ASA's organizing handbook to find further explanations on tapping into ASA's campaigns.
Check out our Chapter Manual for details.
Working with ASA comes with responsibilities, but it also provides benefits to activists, including:
- Monthly mailings from ASA including campaign updates, action ideas, and new literature.
- Consultation from ASA staff on local and national campaigns.
- Trainings lead by ASA staff on topics including lobbying, media, action planning, civil disobedience, and strategy.
- Ability to apply for monetary grants from the ASA office for local ASA work.
- Ability to order ASA literature, shirts and stickers at wholesale price for dissemination and/or fundraising.
- Networking opportunities with other ASA chapters and affiliates, including monthly national organizers call and membership to ASA’s organizers’ email list.
ASA groups are generally independent in terms of campaign activities, and we encourage creativity! Think about what makes sense based on your community. Several campaign ideas are laid out in the organizing handbook, and others can be found on our website.
In addition, our Chapter Mentorship Program connects emerging chapters with seasoned veterans, giving new activists step-by-step guidance through their campaigns. The program is an opportunity to build relationships with our most successful activists and to increase communication to expand ASA's influence.
ASA staff members are here to help you. If you're interested in starting a chapter or affiliate, please contact ASA at Action@SafeAccessNow.org. Please include the subject header "Chapter" in your email.
